That was one of the design prototypes for the first generation Twingo.
Interestingly FSM (the Polish car manufacturer) developed a concept very, very close to the first Twingo... in the early 80s. It was the Beskid 106.

It is true that sometimes different people may arrive at the same conclusions, but in this case the similarities are certainly striking.
I am very sad that Renault got cold feet and never properly followed up on the idea behind the first Twingo, which was great. Co-developed with today’s Smart and therefore rear-engined, the present generation is very much an oddball (albeit a mildly interesting one); the second generation was simply an older Clio in drag.
